Depth of field

What comes out sharp, and where to focus so the most of it does.

Sharp from

1.67 m

24mm · ƒ/8 · 1.67 m to ∞

Hyperfocal

2.52 m

Focused past it, so the far limit is infinity. The near limit is what you are trading away.

Sharp is a judgement, not a measurement: these limits assume the usual circle of confusion for the sensor’s size, which is set for a normal print at a normal distance. Focusing at the hyperfocal puts infinity exactly at the edge of that, so if you print big, focus past it and give the distance the margin.
